Star Publishing study shows that iBrams offers more than web to print
Extensive evaluation examines strengths and weaknesses of 14 different software solutions for print buyers and service providers
Frankfurt am Main, October 17, 2008 – In its market study entitled “What can web-to-print truly offer?” Star Publishing GmbH evaluated and compared 14 current applications. The solutions were evaluated in terms of their applicability along the entire production process of advertising matters, from the communications planning stage to the distribution.
Much more than web-to-print
iBrams is not a mere web-to-print solution, but incorporates numerous other functions. The set-up of the study also by far exceeded exclusive web-to-print offers. “The present study is intended to initiate a new chapter in the understanding of web-to-print. This is why the concept of web editing was developed as a special branch of web-to-print,” said Ramona Kaden, Managing Director of Star Publishing. ”The use of web-based support tools is playing an increasingly important role in the professional preparation of advertising matters. It is attractive to edit, coordinate and approve print-ready materials online in compliance with corporate design guidelines. At the same time, only a few tools are suitable for this purpose. This is why we decided to comb through the web-to-print jungle and to identify the tools that are truly suited for the production of high-quality products.”
“We are happy that Star Publishing examined the web-to-print solutions market in detail and at the same time demonstrated the weakness of this term. In our opinion, web-to-print is too limited a term to truly express the actual problems faced by users,” said Andreas Michalski, CEO of CDO Corporate Design Online. “The study clearly shows the differences among the various solutions. For example, it becomes obvious that numerous programs are not based on standard design technologies such as Adobe InDesign or Quark Xpress, and therefore are only applicable in a limited way to most customer requirements.”
“Time and again we see that agency and industrial customers apply products that soon turn out to be cost drivers and dead end solutions. Frequently, only the manufacturer of the systems can create new templates or it requires special skills that are difficult to acquire,” said Joachim Weissenberger, Head of Sales and Marketing at CDO Corporate Design Online. “The study also shows that such solutions sometimes look terrific and are very suitable for a specific function. This tends to confuse some users. Our good evaluation in the market study shows that with iBrams we offer more than just web-to-print functions and that we are excellently positioned compared to our competitors. Agencies and industrial customers have contributed to this result, since we continuously use their feedback to improve iBrams even further,” added Weissenberger.
The target group of the study consists of decentralized and internationally operating industrial corporations and their media creation service partners. Based on 200 evaluation criteria, the strengths and weaknesses of the tools were examined in a live demo. The study can be purchased for EUR 49 from Deutscher Drucker Verlagsgesellschaft mbH.
